About Marlee Jean's Studio
About the Artist
I’m Marlee, an Australian artist working within contemporary abstract impressionism.
My work explores movement, light, and emotion—capturing moments that exist somewhere between the seen and the felt.
Through layered textures and intuitive mark-making, each piece evolves organically. Rather than beginning with a fixed outcome, I allow the work to unfold in response to subtle shifts in tone, composition, and energy.
Hints of realism often emerge within the abstraction—offering a sense of familiarity without defining the piece entirely. This balance allows each work to be experienced differently, depending on the viewer and the space it inhabits.
At its core, my work is about creating presence—art that feels grounding, expressive, and quietly impactful.
As a mum and artist, creativity has become both a personal outlet and a way to build something meaningful—something that connects beyond the canvas.
Alongside this body of work, I also create detailed graphite and pencil portraits on commission, focusing on expression, connection, and the finer intricacies of each subject.
